Stags Head B  4  -  1  Prince of Wales. **Chris Tupper 13,530 - 100 Steph Pearce - Tupps in fine form tonight with an opening break of 8890 giving Steph no chance. She still did better than the absent Joe would have done  Tupps added some more. Phil Osborne 13,790 - 1030 Barry Holt** - Baz overhit a split and the red popped out the 50, off next shot. Phil got them straight back and never look in any trouble as he made an excellent 9780 break to put us 2 up. Back from holiday Dad as happy as the rest of us with that. Jean Brackenridge 5730 - 10,570 Daniel Wheal** - Dan made a good start but on 3.9k left the one up short. Jean got them back and going well but a thick 10 split and missed both. Excellent clearance from Dan and no mistakes second time around to get one back for the visitors. **Nigel Senior 16,620 - 2730 Martin Cole - both captains took each other on with Nige having the break looking to see us home. He was a bit ropey to start with and a couple of thin splits just holding in the 100, but the nerves settled after that making an excellent 12,250 break to give us the win. A couple of goes for Coley but a little too much swizz and swazz saw the balls whip out! Nigel added some more. Matthew Knight 13,860 - 0 Chris Cox** - Chris left his second split well short and pegged next shot giving me the balls back. I was pretty woeful for the first 4k but ended up making a 13,760 break to give us a 4-1 win. So the champions elect lose their first match of the season as we continue our good record against them having won 3 of our last 4 matches. Fair to say they were well below their best but we took our chances very well. Extremely enjoyable evening in excellent company. (Report Matt Knight).

Game 2 Matt giving Rick no chance and Tarring off to a good start. Game 3 Bepo off very quickly and Dave balls back but off at about 1k, Bepo chances before Dave made sure with 5k+ and touch. Game 4 Tony C off early and me balls back but off at 1k with a woeful shot. Battle at top of the table before I got them back and put the leg to bed so we went to a decider. Game 5 and with Tarring having only 4 as Mike was under the weather (get well soon) James gets the break. James started well and looked comfortable but off at 1.9k, Dave got them back and having played the table earlier looked comfortable and as though he might threaten Matt`s break but off with a very good 5340 break leaving James enough time. James did get them back but left the on up short. Dave had time to peg another 2k and add another 1.5k break. Well done to Tarring on their well deserved win.

As always a good night with the Stags B and table playing well, as least most made it look that way but more of that later. Michael off at 2k but first to get it back adding another 7k to make sure. Tupps balls back and finished off. Matt faultless 10340 opener, Dave first to get them back and made about 5800 break. Phil also faultless with 10460 break (much to the annoyance of Mr Knight who had tried to get Phil to touch up short of his break) Rick 3k break. Next game is awkward to describe but good enough to say neither player looked as though they wanted to win, James finding many ways to come off on the break, Jean losing all her scores including a black peg when there was only 800 in it. James in the ended falling over the line and getting us to a decider. Nigel up and I though after the first 3 games here we go sit and be comfortable but no at just over 2k Nige left the white in front of the 100 hole on the split and although he played a very good shot got nothing out of it. Bit of a battle at the top of the table with both of us getting balls spinning out but eventually I had the balls back but at around 1300 I left the white in front of the 100 hole on the split, also a good shot but no rewards, Nigel balls back and no mistakes this time to give the away team the spoils. Again a poor effort from the home captain when given a chance especially after the famous words on the pre match knock up "you cannot miss on there tonight"

Andy off a around 2k and Dave first to get them back and 7280 break and touch. Dave off early at 2k, TJ balls back but was awful. Dave added another 3k, TJ balls back plenty of time left but again TJ had left his thinking head at home, so Dave made sure. Last Liam on the 4 player rule so James with the break and off at 1.5k, added some more before Liam balls back and got his highest ever break with 3200 to complete the route.

He really struggled with the split but battled to keep his 100% record... just. Bob Osborne 3760 - 4390 Dave Jones** - nip and tuck with Bob edging ahead with a 3k break mid game. He then played a great shot to get them back but closing in on victory he took the peg out on the one up. Still some work to do but Dave kept calm and took the win. Matthew Knight 12,320 - 1840 Chris Lucas** - Chris off early, I got them straight back and made 10,250 to secure the match. One moment of alarm when a whipped 20 split came back a bit quick for the nerves. Chris Tupper 4900 - 1820 Liam Hurley** - great watch as Tupps played all the shots in the book. Think he was a bit tired from his 6 legs last night . Friendly night as always, thanks to the Blue Anchor for a good evening. Hopefully the regular captain is happy with his deputy and his team. Michael getting within range when the bar dropped, a good bit of maths and shots meant Michael needed the 200 to win by 10 but went high. Bob went high on the 100. Michael readjusted and dead on line but agonisingly hung over the pocket and Bob made sure. Mark opened with 9900 giving Rick no chance but Rick two breaks for a decent score. I opened with 8570 starting off well but getting scrappy as I lost the pace of the one up so gave Geoff a very slight chance but for the whole game whatever Geoff tried he managed to find the white pegs. A much better effort by us this time around but still a loss. As usual a good night at the Stag.

Prince of Wales 3  -  2 Stags Head B. **Daniel Wheal 12,780 - 820 Jean Brackenridge - excellent opening break of 9k from Dan giving Jean no chance. He did have a couple of excursions, one after whipping the 50 on the split, which happened in other legs too, but a couple of nice shots saw Dan recover well to give the Prince an early lead. Joe Oakley 8730 - 5440 Matthew Knight** - no whipped splits or excursions for me, but on 5k a thin split proved costly. Ball ended up next to the 20, thought I had got both the 20 and the 30 but 30 whipped and off next shot. Joe first to get them back and, apart from also whipping the 50 on an early split, recovered well to make a very good break and put the hosts 2 up. Chris Cox 540 - 9670 Phil Osborne** - brilliant 9k opener from Phil, happy to play both the 100 and the 10 split, only one alarm when hitting a split thin which whipped out the 100, but fell safely and a lovely recovery shot. Chris unable to get them back until late on. **Martin Cole 10,310 - 4470 Nigel Senior - Excellent break of 10,310 from Martin to secure the match for the Prince, slow start with a whipped 50 on the split but recovered well and never looked like missing from then on. Unfortunately it was a case of what might have been for Nige (and us) as he made an impressive break after Martin touched.
Joe Oakley (4 player) 0 - 10,780 Chris Tupper** - only 4 players for the Prince and Tupps with the break for us. Chris off early and Joe could not get them back, that paved the way for a brilliant 6k break from Tupps using every shot, splits, pots and push throughs, great to watch. As always taking up plenty of time, would have left Joe struggling even if getting the balls back. He didn't and Tupps did adding a few more. High quality match and we certainly made sure the champions needed to bring their A game, as once again, we played very well on their top, one thin split, quite possibly, making all the difference. Well done to them on their win and thanks for a good night and match. Extremely loud night in a busy pub making for a good (or bad) atmosphere depending on your point of view  Other results on the night certainly put the Prince in a good position to retain their title (report Matt Knight).

Mike off early, Pete balls back 1900, Mike 2 breaks to move into the lead and with Pete not able to get the break back that was good enough.  Matt off early, then a battle at the top of the table which James won, Matt blacked going for the 200 at the end but the game was already won by James. Dave C opened with 2.4k and Dave I struggled to get the break back until 2 outrageous bits of luck meant balls back and Dave I touched on 4.5k, Dave C balls back and added 1k. Bepo off early, Rick balls back and built a lead, both players another break each but Rick always in charge after his first break. Good evening as usual at Tarring, plenty of laughs and a good win for the away side.

Nige was tight for time and not so inexplicably also put the one up behind whilst flying. Jean Brackenridge 3300 - 6590 Tony Cross** - Jean says "no comment" I say Crossy got enough second visit. **Chris Tupper 10,950 - 30 Stuart Carruthers - Rusty Tupps off early, Stu C unable to get them back, no second chances as Tupps used his his considerable experience smashing in 7.5k to tie it up. TJ off on first split, balls back first and did the same again. Andy added 2 more breaks to make sure.  Chris off early and although Dave not happy with his game he battled to a good win to put us back in the game.  Alan off early and Rick played a good leg despite loosing 6k to level the match.  Dave off at 2k, Pete balls back and off at 2.6k to take the lead, it was then a case of both players having the break back twice and Dave doing a bit more than Pete to get the Anchor over the line.   Not the best of starts for the Alex and to cap it watched Brighton lose their Euro game as well so disappointed captain. Could be a long season !! Well done to the Anchor on their win and thank you to our new landlord for the sandwiches.
