Got there to find our table had been altered, fair to say the majority of us struggled and apologies to the away team, not how we want the table to play, will be sorted along with those responsible if found. Once again a lovely spread of sausages and chips to consume. Fair to say both Rick and Ian struggled, Rick kept battling and game turned on Ian losing a 2k break. Again myself and Martin struggled, Martin built a 2k lead, I had the balls back near the end with time enough left but was off at just over 1k. Michael the one person who got hold of the table and opened with a 10060 break leaving Geoff no chance. Great to watch but the rest of us did not learn from it!! Another game where Pete and Bob struggled, Bob built a lead and with good game management kept Pete at arms length all the way. Dave opened with 2k+, Mark got to 4k looking as though he had the hang of the top but left a 100 split well short, played a lovely shot of the cushion to touch the ball and keep the lead he had built intact. Dave did get them back so one last chance bit off at under 1k, leaving Mark to bring home the spoils.

Landlord very good and keen for the bar billiards. Nice real pub, very busy as bingo night but that does not affect the games room. Table very good and a great evening spent in good company. Breaks - Dave Ingram - 8200.  Pete off at 1150 leaving the one up short, Dan balls back but not his fluent self and off at 2k. Pete next to get them back and made enough to make sure. Rick off at around 2k, Joe balls back 4k, Rick balls back but spun the red out on the one up, Joe balls back and made sure. Dave opened with 8200 making sure 1st visit, Chis had them back going along at a rapid pace but off at about 2.2k. Michael off at around 1k, Martin balls back and a steady 8k to make sure, Michael first to get the balls back and finished off. TJ never in any real danger got to just over 8k and left a ball in front and between the right hand 30/20, could see enough of the ball to hit it going straight up, caught the object ball well but somewhat unlucky (in my opinion) for the ball to come back and just rest against the white peg and down it went. Dan cleared the last ball and made sure. Away Captain absolutely gutted, what could have been but hey ho.

Not too sure where to start but a bad night for the home team, and fair to say in the first 3 games nobody opened up with a break of 1000. At least the sausage and chips were devoured with enthusiasm. Good night with the Henty A but the home team not really at the races for once this season. Rick off at less than 1k, Terry got them back straight away and in no mood to give Rick a 2nd chance and 8270 and touch to make sure. Dave likewise off at about 700, Stuart unable to get them back to take advantage, Dave did and as he would admit, not at his smoothest but a battling 8270 and touch made sure, Dave added a few more and Stuart had one small break at the end. Pete joining the 1st 2, spun the 50 out on his first break shot, did not recover and off at 400. Gerry first to get them back but off early giving Pete another chance. Although Pete did get the break back did not get going and off at around 1k, after some time at the top of the table, Gerry first to get them back again and touched up on 4k to take the leg. Michael to the hockey and the home captain readying himself for a decider. Michael going well, 100 splitting to 6100, then caught split fat and left white in front of the 100 and red went behind. Stuart got them back but pegged about 1k, here we go I thought Michael balls back and make sure but not to be and Stuart 1st to get a 2nd bite at the cherry and 8870 break and touch with 3 balls left on the table to take a good win. With the game decided I decided to go with James in the last and he looked ok for 1k but off at around 1200. KT balls back and cruised to 8870 before the aroma of sausage and chips got the better of him and he touched with the game one to help himself to a portion before the gannets had descended and eaten it all. From there a friendly game with James able to add some more. A game to forget for the home side but in the larger picture of winning the league, will make no difference, so onwards and upwards.

Good win for the home side, congenial company, a few laughs and the highlight a play out by Michael. Michael played the table out with just a few Oohs and Aahs near the end when he spun a 100 split and the 2 consequent shots missing the pegs, before recovering to finish off. Pete off early, then both he and Vern had plenty of goes, including at the break, Vern eventually getting them back near the end and getting go to pinch the win. James off at less than 1000, both players then struggling to clear the balls, James first to do so and built a 3.5k lead, Brain break back off at 1500, Brian break back again but just ran out of time, a big leg for the home side, with James keeping his cool. Rick opened with 7930 giving Roger a slight chance, but with nothing going for Roger, Rick made sure of a home victory. Pressure off of the captain, time to relax and shine!! No off at 600, Colin no luck at the top end, so break back for me and off we go again an awful shot and off at around 3k. Again no run of the balls for Colin, this time I did get them back and make sure with 6k. Nice pizzas to end the evening.

Stags Head B 4 - 1 Henty A. **Chris Tupper 8100 - 3330 Terry Molloy - Tupps a solid 4k opener, Terry got them straight back and then easily to 3k before a miscue and off. Tupps killed it off next visit. Phil Osborne 9210 - 4610 Kevin Tunstall** - Kevin put himself down against the mighty Phil. A couple of ropey splits from Kev and he was off. Great clearance from the Oz and then easily to over 7k before a moment of alarm as a ball ended up by the right hand 30. Excellent shot to clear and touching on his score for a great win and us in the driving seat. Kevin finished off. Jean Brackenridge 3580 - 11,700 Stuart Carruthers** - shaky start from both players as Stu off after missing the break and then Jean missed a ball. Stu then got himself about 5k in front before knocking a one up behind, Jean balls back and going well but off on 3.5k before Stuart balls back again and just about enough. Helped himself to a 4th break soon after to make doubly sure.
**Nigel Senior 11,920 - 7360 Stuart Mepham - captain Nige on with the break for the win, looking in great touch but the inevitable kick left the balls awkward on about 7k. A couple of excellent shots saw him get the break back and touching on a brlliant 11,620 for the match. Mep looked in pretty good touch himself with a rapid response before a miscue ended his reply. Matthew Knight 13,340 - 4580 Mike Daw** - Mike off early, I got them straight back and made my score before banking them. Mike finished off. Excellent win for us to start the second half of the season, Henty A continuing their struggles. Plenty of banter making it an even better night. (Report by Matt Knight).

Rick first one up behind and Chris first to get them back but off at just over 2k, Rick managed to put the one up behind but then built a 3k lead, Chris balls back and got going but ran out of time. Dave J lost his opening break, Dave I off early when he got the break back but was next to get them back and made sure. Liam opened with just over 1k, TJ balls back but one up behind. TJ then first to get them back, got out of position at 3.5k so touched up to keep them, then added another break at the end. Chris out on the 4 player rule against Ian who stood in for the Alexandra. Ian opened with 3.5k, then added another break before Chris got them back but like his first game ran out of time.

Rick opened with 3k+ then added another 7k+ with Tony not really getting going. Dave opened with 2.5k then we both had plenty of chances to put it to bed with me falling over the line. Stags Head B 2 - 3  Alexandra. Clash between the premier leaders and the 1st division leaders with the visitors receiving all 5 breaks from their illustrious opponents. A great evening as usual plenty of banter, some good bar billiards and a real array and large spread of sandwiches to finish. Game 1  Jean Brackenridge  v Pete Hickman *. Pete usually has a liking for the Stags table so when Jean was put down I decided Pete was the best man to get us underway. Pete proved me wrong by leaving his one up short!! Jean got them back but out the one up behind. Then both players had the break back again but did not add a lot to their scores. Pete built a 1500 lead but off with 2.5 minutes left, Jean got them back and this time settled into the 100 split to take a scrappy leg. Jean 5290 - 3100 Pete. 1-0. Game 2 Nigel Senior v  Michael Wilson*. Nige decided it was time for a captains innings so I went with Jersey runner-up and this table is crap, bandana man. Michael opened with 5k, Nigel did not get them back but Michael did and this time compiled an excellent 15200 break, in the process becoming the latest member of the Sussex 20k club (has had one before in Surrey), and also setting the 1st Division high score and break. Nigel 140 - 20700 Michael Wilson. Game 3 Phil Osborne -  Rick Cunningham*. Rick joined Pete leaving the 1st one up short, a couple of goes each before Rick was first to get them back and added 7k = break, leaving Phil a very slight glimmer of a chance but it was always a big ask and despite a good effort, when the bar went Phil was over 1k short. Phil 7100 - 8820 Rick Cunningham* 1- 2. Game 4 Matt Knight - Dave Ingram*. Matt put down by his captain as the man for the occasion so I went in with former WC Dave. Dave ground out a 9880 break but to be fair had a number of excursions (in fact could have opened a coach company) but should great determination and skill to stay on the top. Might be said that with time still allowing Matt a chance, Dave had a huge slice of the run of the balls, when leaving the red to the left hand side of the 50 he went to play a delicate touch in and miscued the cue ball for it not only to just get to the red, sink it and then roll on slightly to leave it perfect for a 100/10 recovery shot and onwards with the break. Dave had left Matt no chance taking between 13 and 14 minutes on his break. Matt did get a rapid 5k. Matt 5420 - 10270 Dave. 1 - 3. Game 5  Chris Tupper  - James Whittle*. With the away captain rested for the evening up stepped James to the table and opened he opened with a 2k break. The senior player for the home team first to get them back and added 3k and then another 5k, with James unable to get the break back. Tupps making the score line respectable. Chris 8790 - 2400 James Whittle. 2-3. Has to be said a good result for the away side but we did get the run of the balls but made the most of it, which is all you can do. So with one game left of the 1st half (plus some rearranged games) the Alex have played all 5 premier teams, taking the scalps of 4 of them all 3-2, but were unable to make it a full house when losing out to the Henty B at the Henty 4-1.

Michael off at 1.4k, Ros no luck at the back end of the table, Michael eventually first to get them back and 5k and touch to put us back in it. Paul off at 2k, I was going well and feeling comfortable, at just under 4k when I caught the 100 split thick, sinking the 100 but leaving the cue ball nearly touching the peg, tried to split it to no avail, both down giving Paul the break back, Paul added another 2k +. I did get them back needing 4k in about 3.5 minutes and again started well before the red fell off the spot as I played the break, got one down but pegged the next go, game over and a win for the home side. Needless to say not a happy bunny as I should have taken it to the decider, table playing well so no excuses. Good evening though with plenty of laughs and pizzas to finish.

**Paul Barnett 6400 - 4010 Chris Tupper - steady 4560 opener from Barney taking up plenty of time. When Tupps got them back he was looking good but sadly left a one up short and that was 1-1. **Ros Appleby 5450 - 1580 Jean Brackenridge - Ros made a bright start with a couple of nice splits but she couldn't keep it going, Jean got them back and started well but a one up behind and off. Ros managing to get them back a couple more times edging further ahead as Jean had no luck getting them back. Going from 1-0 up to 2-1 down left us in a bit of a pickle with Senior and Knight left to take on the 4 pin expert...twice. Nige in the doghouse with admin/transport manager due to being 10 minutes late for pick up and slightly p****d. He was soon out of the doghouse with an awesome display. **Colin Southouse 880 - 13,070 Nigel Senior - Colin off first split and that was goodnight in the 4th leg as Nige smashed in a rapid 9970 with a tap. Crucially Col didn't get them back and Nige finished off leaving Gandalf with barely any playing time. Decider time Colin Southouse (4 player) 5650 - 9220 Matthew Knight** - my awesomeness lasted a couple of splits as somehow hit a split too thin and pegged. Oh dear....but nothing for Col and Knight back on with a pretty good clear. No mucking about this time as 9220 break and touch to give us a comeback win. Colin with break and score to the bar in quick time. Enjoyable night in good company, sorry about the decibels as Joseph turned up to help with the noise...  Hope those under the weather get well soon (Report from Matt Knight).

Good night with the Prince with plenty of banter and again we were treated to sausage and chips to finish the evening. Game 1 saw Pete off very early, Barry got the balls back but also early, Barry got them back twice more to make sure, with Pete unable to get the balls back. Good start for the away side. Game 2 and Dave opened with 9750 leaving Joe not enough time so match level. Game 3 saw James spin both balls out on the break and Dan got them back and made sure with a 8140 break to put the visitors back in charge. Fair to say both Pete and James guilty of being a bit heavy handed on their shots. Game 4 and Rick opened with around 3k. Chris got them back but unluckily pegged around 1500. Top of the table battle for a while till Rick got them back but was off quickly. Rick then first to get them back and made sure before tapping up to take it to a decider. Game 5 and the captains up to the table. I knew I could not afford to let Martin in so for a change the real TJ turned up and set about a 9250 and touch opening break leaving Martin not enough time to catch me. I had to make some good recovery shots but managed to retrieve the break straight away each time. So another good 3-2 win for the home side. As usual the Prince very sporting in defeat and we as a team wish them well if they do have to move venues due to a change of landlord.

Rick started with about 4k, Stuart balls back off at about 2k, Rick balls back 1700, Stu balls back and in front when the bar went but off 300 up and 5 balls left, Rick down to last 2 balls and needed to leave one u but both unluckily disappeared down the 30 hole. Dave off at around 2k, Terry balls back but off early as well, Dave balls back and made sure before touching up. Michael opened with 9780, KT finished off with 6590, so one go each, great pressure leg form Michael. Pete off early, Stuart 2.5k and then Pete unable to get going and Stuart stayed ahead. TJ off at 4k+, both players time at top of the table, TJ got them back first and touched up on another 4K + to make sure, Terry finished off. A good result for the away team and a complete difference to how they played the table last week. Nice burgers and chips to end the evening

Table good just the Alexandra made a pigs ear of it. Dave was off early but got them back first and made sure.  Michael off early catching the split thick, then first to get the balls back but did the same. Gareth made a steady 5k leaving Michael no time. Pete opened with 2k and with Roger struggling early on looked to be going ok, Roger closed the gap and then Pete black pegged. Then the game got bogged down at the back of the table, Pete getting them back late but not enough time. I lost my opening break then Brian and I for 8 minutes conceived to see how many ways we could either lose a score or just score nothing and I led 70 to nil. Brian eventually had the balls back twice to make sure with me only getting the break back after the bar dropped. James opened with near 3k and then it was the same old story at the top of the table until Vern got them back and made a winning 4k+ break.

Michael showing us all how to play the table, which was good on the night, just the rest of us made hard work of it. All 4 other games could certainly have gone either way with both Pete and I only making sure near the end of our games. In the battle of the Dave`s it was a matter of Dave J making more of his 3 breaks to Dave Is 2 breaks. Paul opened with close on 3k and James came back to level only to leave the one up short giving Paul the chance to make sure. Lovely spread of sausages and chips to finish the evening.
